Foyles October Preview

Grand Central’s favourite bookstore has a month of events for all the family! Whether it’s a lesson in illustration from Harry Potter’s own Jim Kay or a political rant from Jonathan Pie, there’s something to keep you busy throughout October at Foyles.

Benny’s Hat Launch with Juliet Clare Bell

Friday 13th October 2017 5pm – 7pm

Join us for the launch of Benny’s Hat with author, Juliet Clare Bell and illustrator, Dave Gray. There will be snacks and drinks, activities for children (making frisbees and paper hats), live music, book signing, and an opportunity to buy or gift a copy of the book to a local children’s organisation – £2 of which from every sale will go to Edward’s Trust in Birmingham!

Benny’s Hat is a story about siblings, love, loss and hope. A child bereavement counsellor will be in store to talk with anyone about help available for bereaved families or friends.

Jonathan Pie: Off The Record Signing

Saturday 14th October 2017 3pm – 4pm

Tom Walker created the fictitious news reporter Jonathan Pie (while working, we can’t resist pointing out, at Foyles), he can’t have predicted that the character would become a sensation across the nation and the world.

Viewed in the millions on YouTube and Facebook, Jonathan Pie’s angry yet insightful diatribes have garnered him a massive online following and Tom’s 2017 national tour culminated in a sell-out evening at the London Palladium. We’re delighted that he’s now returning to Foyles to launch his first book! Come along to have your book signed and meet the man behind the comic creation and the YouTube sensation.

Fairy Tales and Feminism with Jen Campbell

Friday 10th November 2017 6:30pm – 7:30pm

If you’re looking for someone who knows their books, then simply look no further than Jen Campbell. Having been a bookseller for ten years, she’s an author/poet with titles such as Weird Things Customers Say In Bookshops, The Bookshop Book and The Hungry Ghost Festival, booktuber (a YouTube channel that is dedicated to talking about books)…the list is endless. Jen’s latest book, The Beginning of the World in the Middle of the Night, is a collection of short stories, an elixir of fairy tales and nightmares, the strange and the disturbing, and it is utterly enchanting.

All events are free however you are required to RSVP via email to birmingham@foyles.co.uk, stating which event you’ll be attending!
